DISPUTE RESOLUTION
Disputes inevitably arise. Unfortunately, in our legal system the resolution of disputes is frequently expensive, and time consuming, as well as, personally and professionally distracting. Regardless of the merits of a case, the outcome is uncertain, and absent agreement, a judge or jury with little or no personal experience with the issues makes the final decision. Dispute resolution is an alternative way to resolving personal and business disputes in a more efficient and effective manner with more certain results. The litigation and business lawyers at PRK routinely practice these alternative methods of dispute resolution.
In addition, several of our attorneys have committed a portion of their practice to serve as mediators.
- Pete Peterson has acted as principal legal counsel to many Northwest businesses and their owners. He represents closely held business owners and individuals. Pete's legal experience includes partnership disputes, mergers and acquisitions, business litigation, commercial real estate, asset and stock purchases, commercial finance, private placements, and venture capital, as well as the review and drafting of complex agreements. Pete is adept at resolving complex disputes and is available to apply his skills and experience to the mediation of business disputes.
- David Kelly has practiced for over 20 years in a wide variety of areas, including commercial and bankruptcy litigation, real estate, and commercial finance. His clients include large national companies, locally owned businesses and their owners. David has resolved numerous cases through jury trials, bench trials, and arbitration, but believes that mediating disputes is often the most effective way to achieve a fair and just result, even those that are seemingly intractable. David completed mediation training at the University of Washington Law School in January 2006.
- Loretta Story focuses her practice in the area of Family Law with an emphasis on collaborative law and mediation. Loretta's practice includes divorce, separation, custody and support issues, and domestic violence. She brings over 14 years of legal experience to her practice, having completed her mediation training at the University of Washington in 1999 and being instrumental in establishing and chairing the first collaborative law section to the King County Bar. Loretta believes that through the use of the collaborative process, family law matters can be resolved in a respectful manner without the threat of litigation. She welcomes the opportunity to serve parties as either a collaborative attorney or mediator.
